NSA Fastpitch Tournament Hits Tri Cities

PASCO, Wash. -     It's not the first time this summer and it won't be the last: hundreds of softball players descended on Pasco today for a major softball tournament. This time, it's the NSA State Fastpitch Tournament.

More than 120 teams of girls ages 10-18 are playing at multiple sites across the Tri Cities. With families involved, about 4,500 are here for the weekend, and the event is expected to generate more than $1.3 million for the local economy.

"It's the 7th straight year we've had it here, " says tournament site director Kip Reavis. "With softball, we have 36 fields within 15 minutes of each other. It's easy to get this many teams in one tournament. Teams are from across the state; they come from as far as Bellingham. We pull a lot of teams from the other side. They use it as a vacation, also."

The tournament resumes action on Saturday afternoon.
