Emeralds Hand Indians 3rd Loss of Season

The Emeralds welcomed in the hottest team in the Northwest Leauge to start a 5-day 6-game series Sunday night at PK Park. With opening night starter Yimmi Brasoban on the hill, the Ems staked him to an early lead. Marcus Davis started things with a double in the 2nd inning and with two down Jose Ruiz drove him in with a single to center. Eugene padded their lead in the 3rd against starter Richelson Pena when Trea Turner walked and Cory Spangenberg singled him to third base. Two batters later, Marcus Davis drove him in with a fielders choice.

Spokane took advantage of a strong wind and a green center fielder in the top of the 4th when DH Luke Tendler drove one over the head of regular 2B Cory Spangenberg to lead things off. Marcus Greene drove him in with a groundout on the very next pitch.

The Ems extended their lead in the bottom of the 5th after Turner singled and stole second and Spangenberg drove him in with a single of his own. A couple of hitters later, Marcus Davis belted his second double of the night picking up his second RBI as well.

With a 4-2 lead, Brasoban was trying to complete the 6th inning when a walk to Tendler extended the frame. Marcus Greene then came up and drove one to right center field. Spangenberg got a good jump on this one but with the ball tailing away from him it clipped off the end of his glove for an RBI triple. Ems skipper Robbie Wine called to the bullpen for lefty Travis Radke who struck out CF Zach Cone to end the threat. Radke would face four total batters and fan each one of them swinging.

Ryan Butler would come on to pitch the final two innings allowing just one hit on his way to his first save. The Ems have won two straight and will be back at it Monday for a 12:05pm doubleheader. It will be a pair of 7 inning contests as these clubs make up a rain out from the first week of the season. Tickets are available at EmeraldsBaseball.com and as always you can tune in live on 95.3fm the Score.
