It was Roots Basektball with the upset victory over the local favorites, Spokane Club, who took home the Elite Men's open division crown and closed out the weekend. Spokane Club led by former Gonzaga players Cory Violette and Blake Stepp had given other Elite teams fits all weekend with Violette owning the inside, but it wasn't enough to topple the Northern Arizona University contingent that made up Roots Basketball. Led by Ryan McDade in the post and Kelly Golob from everywhere else on the court, Roots Basketball was able to take an early 14-6 lead and hold off a Spokane Club comeback attempt to win 20-14.
Overall, Hoopfest 25 couldn't have honored the 25th anniversary of Spokane's Guinness World Record setting event any better. A total of 6,409 teams played on 458 courts in over 14,000 games, bringing over 250,000 people to the city of Spokane, with none of it being possible if not for the 3,000 volunteers who helped with the set up, the break down, the refereeing, scoretaking and so much more.
