Nachbaur Signs Extension Through 2016-2017 Season

By SpokaneChiefs.com

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs today announced head coach Don Nachbaur has signed a two-year contract extension. With the extension added to Nachbaur’s previous contract, he is now signed with Spokane through the 2016-17 season.

“I’m exceptionally grateful to Bobby [Brett], Tim [Speltz], and the Chiefs management from top to bottom for the opportunity to extend my tenure with the Spokane Chiefs,” Nachbaur said. “I am excited to continue developing our players and work with the rest of our hockey staff to provide a quality team for our loyal and deserving fans.

“I enjoy coaching in Spokane and being part of the Spokane community.”

Nachbaur, the 11th head coach in Chiefs’ franchise history, will enter his 5th season with the Chiefs – and 16th in the WHL – with the upcoming 2014-15 season. Currently with 598 career coaching victories, he could become just the fourth WHL head coach to eclipse the 600-win mark, joining Ken Hodge (742), Lorne Molleken (603), and Don Hay (609). Hay, now with the Kamloops Blazers, is the only active WHL coach ahead of Nachbaur in career wins.

“Don has done a great job of getting the most out of our players and keeping our team competitive in a very tough U.S. Division,” said Chiefs’ General Manager Tim Speltz. “He is very committed to our organization and his players in their development both as players and as young men. Don has earned this extension and we are proud to have him coach our team.”

Nachbaur is a three-time winner of the WHL’s Coach of the Year award, most recently winning with Spokane following the 2010-11 season. In previous WHL head coaching stints, Nachbaur racked up 202 wins with the Seattle Thunderbirds (1994-00) and 229 wins with the Tri-City Americans (2003-09).

The Spokane Chiefs’ Bud Light Opening Night at Spokane Arena is Saturday, September 27. Ticket packages for the 2014-15 regular season are on sale now and begin as low as $96. Stop by the Chiefs’ Ticket Office or call a Chiefs Ticket Account Executive at (509) 535-PUCK for more information.
