The first step in recovering is to reach out for help and The Chaplaincy in Richland is always available.
"How does a family recover... there is no easy answer to that. It is something that the family is just really going to have to work through," said Executive Director of The Chaplaincy, Paul Weil.
Weil said working through it is a challenge but it's important for everyone involved to be compassionate, gentle and supportive of each other and themselves.
"There's no need to think you have to do this on your own. This is really when it's a benefit to seek out the resources that can be helpful," said Weil.
Resources like counseling: individually, in groups and family therapy. All of which can be found at The Chaplaincy.
"I have seen families come through, actually incidents like this and come out intact. Hold their lost child with lots of love and fond memories as well as the family holding each other with lots of love," said Weil.
The Chaplaincy deals with loss every day. This, however, is a tragic loss and the grief this family is likely feeling is considered complicated grief because of the circumstances.
