UNION GAP, WA - It is called station 420 and staff said they expect no matter what happens, whether business is good or bad, their hard work is going to pay off.

“You’re going to be able to feel pretty comfortable coming into a retail store and getting a quality product," said owner Adam Markus.

It is an inconspicuous storefront getting ready to be the first legal retail marijuana store in Union Gap next Tuesday.

"You’re going to be able to come into a place that's nice and clean.  It’s going to be friendly, you're not going to be doing a deal out behind a grocery store," Markus said.

He has had the idea for years after his sister died from a prescription drug overdose for her chronic pain.  Now his brother is dealing with the same pain issues his sister suffered from before her untimely death.

"I don't know that medicinal marijuana would have helped her or not helped her, but she didn't have the chance at that time," Markus said.

Al Kleinman is the store's manager with almost 40-years of bartender experience and 17-years of teaching the State's Liquor Control Board mandatory alcohol training.

With that, he has a good set of skills to bring to the table.

"I’m a great help to showing the employees how to check Ids properly and how to recognize possible intoxication levels," Kleinman said.

Markus said his product will cost between $17.00 and $25.00 for one gram of marijuana that has been tested thoroughly.

"All of our product goes through heavy testing.  They test for chemicals, for mold and mildew. All of the things that could be detrimental to using marijuana."

But even with all the legal hoops they had to go through, they will be ready for business as usual.

"I think we're going to be right on schedule," Kleinman said

"We’ve all sat back and watched what happened in Colorado.  Is it going to be the same that happens here? We’ll let you know on Wednesday," Markus said.

The only concern is the lack of product that is passing testing.

Markus said in our area 30-percent of the growers who are sending in marijuana are not passing the tests.

They will have enough product for opening day, but fear product might be short in the coming weeks.
