SPOKANE, Wash. -

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police have arrested a man they believe broke into a woman's house and raped her Sunday night.

Just before 10:00pm, police say they received a report of a rape at a home near E. Crown and N. Nevada. The woman told police that a man she did not know came to her house, spoke with her through an open door and then left. About 10-15 minutes later, the woman said the same man came back to her house, forced his way inside and raped her while holding a knife to her throat. Police say the woman's throat was cut during the rape.

Detectives arrived on scene and located the suspect's wallet, which fell out during the struggle. 29-year-old Kenneth Williams was quickly named as a person of interest, and police say they actually saw him standing outside the home while they were conducting their investigation. Officers tried to talk to Williams, however he ran from them. After a short pursuit, Williams was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Rape and Burglary.

Police say Williams and the victim do not know each other, and Williams' girlfriend lives next door. When interviewed, Williams told detectives he only "hugged" the victim.

Williams made his first court appearance on Monday, and is expected back in court for arraignment in about a week and a half.
