SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The Spokane police chief and Spokane County sheriff say both departments had recent contacts with a man who police say fatally shot his wife Tuesday at a downtown medical center, then killed himself.

Police Chief Frank Straub told a news conference Wednesday that a previously confiscated gun was released Monday to 37-year-old Christopher Henderson. KHQ-TV reports that Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich told the news conference that deputies talked to Henderson on Monday at his workplace after other employees called to say he might harm himself. The sheriff says deputies reported the man was calm when they spoke to him and told them he wanted to live for his children.

Spokane police say the man went to the Deaconess Medical Center complex where his wife, 30-year-old Sheena Henderson, worked and shot her multiple times Tuesday. He then fatally shot himself. No one else was hurt.
