KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Water Follies is right around the corner and as always NBC Right Now is your home for complete coverage.

Lots of excitement is building for this year's 49th Annual Water Follies, the weekend down at Columbia Park starts Friday July, 25th.

Kathy Powell, Tri-City Water Follies Event Coordinator said "this is a very exciting time, all the paper we've been pushing around is finally turning into something."

The official T-shirts are in, the programs are stacked and people are already getting their admission tickets and reserving a space to witness the 49th running of the Columbia Cup, a whole two weeks in advance but the planning began back in September!

"That's why it's really fun right now because everything that we've been doing has turned into something fun, it's turned into a T-shirt, it's turned into a booster button, it's turned into a group coming in to celebrate and have a great party down at the Water Follies during the weekend and it's just a lot of fun," Powell said.

She also added that there are lots of great things happening this year, like new improvements to the kids area to attract more families, including exhibits from the new REACH center.

Plus even better racing out on the river than ever before.

"Oh my gosh this year I think we're going to have some quality racing out on the boats, the teams have been mixing it up, drivers swapping to other teams, crew chiefs going to other teams, the boats have been overhauled and refurbished and they're ready to go," Powell said.

While the last minute preparations are falling into place, next year's event is already on organizers' minds.

"So not only are we planning for our 49th we're also trying to get ready for the 50th so this is going to be a spectacular year and gosh 50 will be even better," Powell explained.

Also new this year are free tickets for kids ages 6 to 12, you can pick those up at local Jack In The Box restaurants. You can buy general admission tickets right now at local Albertsons stores and at the Tri-Cities Water Follies office.
