Ten-Year-OId is Suspect in Kennewick Playground Fire

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - Heavy black smoke filled the sky above Kennewick Sunday afternoon. The Kennewick Police Department said someone may have set the Santiago Estates playground on fire. It had rubber flooring which made the smoke so dark.

The Kennewick Fire Department arrived at 2105 N. Steptoe Street soon after the fire started around 1:30 p.m and quickly put the fire out. The fire caused an estimated $10,000 worth of damage.

Officers searched the area and witnesses told them a young boy rode away "in a hurry" on his bicycle soon after the fire started. Police are calling the fire arson and say a ten-year-old boy is the suspect.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas. >>
