KENNEWICK, WA - Police are still investigating a suspicious fire Sunday afternoon at Santiago Sunset Estates in Kennewick.

Neighbors there expressed they are pretty sad this play structure went up in flames.

Fire crews responded around 1:30 p.m. and they were able to put out the fire within minutes.

Officers say they searched the area and witnesses reported a kid racing away on his bike shortly after the fire started. Police say they do not know who started the fire, but are investigating it as an arson.

Neighbors said there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood and it was pretty much the only place for them to play.

"Everyone was asking for something to play around, something that was safe you know instead of running around in the streets, it was all gated, yea it took them a while to put it up and they finally put it up and now it's gone now," Carlos Zapata, a former neighbor said.

Police are still investigating, said if in fact a kid is responsible for starting this fire he would be arrested and sent to a juvenile detention center.

For now neighbors hope the property managers will have the playground rebuilt soon.
