Woods Leads Pippins To 3-0 Win Over Rogues

Posted: Updated:
MEDFORD, Ore. – For as good as Andrew Woods has pitched all season, his best outing of the summer came Tuesday night in Medford, as the right-hander logged seven shutout innings and the Pippins knocked off the Rogues, 3-0.

Woods moved past a single by Spencer Smith leading off in the bottom of the 1st and retired the next nine hitters he faced to keep the game scoreless.

The Pippins bats gave him some support in the top of the 4th. After a leadoff double by Jake Roberts, Shawn Wardian brought him home with an RBI single to make it 1-0. JC Snyder reached later in the inning and went to 2nd base on an errant pickoff throw before Ryan Rosa drove him in with another RBI single to go up 2-0.

Woods ran into trouble in the bottom of the 4th. An error by Taylor Snyder and a walk to Victor Garcia put a pair of runners on with nobody out. After retiring the next two hitters, Jake Roberts made a sliding catch in left field to retire Joe Chavez and end the scoring threat from the Rogues.

Medford pitching also buckled down after allowing the two runs in the 3rd. The Rogues kept the Pippins scoreless until the 9th inning, but reliever Kyle Beam became wild. He walked three straight batters with two outs to load the bases, before Rosa delivered another RBI single to give the Pippins an insurance run and a 3-0 lead.

Kenny Rosenberg picked up his first save of the season in the bottom of the 9th to get the Pippins their third straight win, their thirds shutout, their seventh win in eight games and their eighth series win in the last 10. They’ll go for their fourth sweep of the summer Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m.
