Region's Military Academy Acceptance Rate Lowest In WA State

NBCRightNow.com - A number of men and women from our region join the army every year, but the numbers are substantially lower when it comes to military academies.

Admissions scouts think schools like West Point are missing out on some possible students simply because the applications aren't coming in from our area. NBC Right Now got the numbers for the last four years. They show only 10 students were offered admission at West Point locally putting our district in last place in the state. Again, we're in last place for accepted students all the way down to just 8.

Admissions representatives believe part of the problem is that many teens interested in military service just don't see military academies as an option and go straight to their local recruiting stations instead. West Point looks for candidates with strong academic records that show leadership in their community. Those applicants should get started with the process early. Unlike most colleges, much of the first paperwork begins junior year of high school.

If it sounds like something your teens are interested in, West Point recruiters ask that you check out www.westpoint.edu for more information and they encourage students to research any and all academies that could point them to the right military career for them.
