RICHLAND, WA- People living in south Richland will have a new school in the area.

The Richland School District held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for a new elementary school.  Students and staff were at the 12-acre site near Westcliffe Boulevard.  The 71,000 square foot school will hold 700 students.

"We've been growing by 200-300 students a year for quite a few years now and we expect that that's likely to continue.  This won't be the last new school that we build, but it'll be the most recent," said Superintendent Rick Schulte.

This is the districts 10th elementary school and it is set to open in August 2015.
