KENNEWICK, WA-  The Benton-Franklin Chapter of Red Cross sent out one of their emergency response vehicles to help those displaced by the wildfires.

With a record setting fire season, relief programs have to be ready for anything.  Peggy Hoggarth is the executive director of the Benton-Franklin Chapter of the red cross.  She was also one of the ones to help out.

"We don't know what to expect.  This won't wrap up quickly; we do know that," said Hoggarth.

This means that more volunteers will have to be ready for anything that could happen this season.

"Currently, we have two staff people deployed, three volunteers are forth going today, and we expect to support those areas in the future days," said Hoggarth.

The emergency response vehicles allow the Red Cross to easily reach victims and supply them with food.  They currently have four trucks in the region ready to depart at any time.

"We can load the food in here, and it can stay warm for about six hours.  We can feed up to 5,000 people in affected areas to the people that might be displaced.  They might be in shelters.  We can actually set up a first feeding location for these people that need food and water," said Disaster Program Manager Cody Campbell.

The trucks get food from local organizations and churches.  They are only expected to stay about ten days in Wenatchee, but they will stay longer if needed.

The Red Cross has a Wildfire App that gives users information on what to do during a wildfire, local wildfire updates, and the app allows users to send an "I'm safe alert" to family and friends.  The app is accessible without a data connection as well.  For more information go to www.redcross.org.
