Kendrys Morales is headed back to Seattle after the Mariners have made a deal for the switch-hitting designated hitter by sending relief pitcher Stephen Pryor to the Minnesota Twins, according to ESPN.com.

Morales failed to resign with the Mariners after rejecting the team's $14.1-million qualifying offer following a the 2013 season when he led Seattle in batting average (.277), hits (177), doubles (34) and RBI (80). So far this season Morales is hitting .234 with 1 home run and 18 RBI through 39 games with the Twins.

Pryor has only pitched in one game in the big leagues this season, a 1.2 inning relief appearance where he gave up 1 hit, an unearned run, 2 walks and a strikeout. Pryor has an overall 2.81 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 34 MLB appearances ranging from 2012-14.  In the minors, Pryor has pitched 34.2 innings with a 5.71 ERA and 30 strikeouts between Jacksonville (AA) and Tacoma (AAA) during the 2014 season.

Seattle plans to make the corresponding move to add Morales to the 25-man roster on Friday, July 25, when he joins the team.

The Mariners having one of the worst MLB offenses were shopping for a professional bat as they make a push for the playoffs. Currently, the team is 10 games back of the Oakland Athletics in the American Leage West standings, but the M's are in position to take the second wild card spot, sitting in a three-way tie with Toronto and the New York Yankees for the last playoff spot with 61 games to play.
