NEW YORK (AP) -  Tony Award-winning actress, Lauren Bacall has died. She was 89. Bacall died Tuesday at a New York City hospital. She once said, "Stardom isn't a career, it's an accident."

She was one of the biggest names of Hollywood's Golden Era. And she was linked both on and off screen with co-star and husband Humphrey Bogart. She first starred with Bogart in 1944 in the movie "To Have and Have Not." They were married the following year.

Bacall had a long movie career, starring in films such as "How to Marry a Millionaire" and "Murder on the Orient Express," and with husband Humphrey Bogart in "To Have and Have Not" and "The Big Sleep."

In a 1996 interview, Bacall said she learned a lot about show biz from "Bogey" - like not to believe press clippings about herself because the studios ginned up the stories.

Bacall would outlive Bogart by more than 50 years. Bacall was nominated for an Oscar in 1997 for her work in "The Mirror Has Two Faces."
