SPOKANE, Wash. -

A woman that scammed Jewelry Design Center out of two Rolex watches was never caught, according to store manager Denver Toone.

The woman entered the store on June 21st, dressed in nice clothing with an expensive handbag. To the staff, there were no red flags.

“I guess that’s why they call them con artists, but to see the level of confidence was shocking,” Toone told KHQ.

After the woman picked the two watches, she stepped up to the cashier, who checked her card against an ID, and then swiped it. The card was declined, which, Toone says, is not unusual for their store given that they sell very expensive products.

“Sometimes people need to call their bank to get their fund level increased or something like that,” Toone said.

The woman handed the phone to the cashier, who received enough info over the phone to have the card authorized. Everything checked out, and the woman left with the two watches.

More than a month later, the store received notice from the credit card company that the purchase had never been authorized. The woman had used a stolen identity, and a fake credit card.

The result is that the store is out the two watches, valued at $30,000.

“It's sad because we live in area where there are a lot of great people,” Toone said. “When you find out they're not all that way it's sad you have to be a little more hardened because of actions of a few.
