SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Northwest League announced that starting pitcher Richelson Pena of the Spokane Indians has been named Pitcher of the Week for August 11-17.

Pena, a member of the Rangers Dominican Summer League Champions last season, has shown consistency in the Indians rotation. Last week, in starts against Everett (August 11) and Tri-City (August 16), the right hander tossed six strong innings in each contest. The only run allowed was one home run, and he scattered seven hits. He also struck out five batters in both games while walking two over the same span.

The Valverde Mao, Dominican Republic, native leads the Indians with a 2.89 ERA and is currently fourth in the NWL. He has given up 20 earned runs, which is the lowest number amongst Spokane's starting rotation. His 54 punch outs rank second on the team.

The Spokane Indians have won five Northwest League weekly honors in 2014, highest amongst all NWL teams. Jose Trevino (June 30-July 6), Seth Spivey (July 7-13) and Zach Cone (July 14-20) have all received Player of the Week honors. Nick Gardewine (August 4-10) has been named Pitcher of the Week.

Sean Dwyer of the Tri-City Dust Devils earned NWL Player of the Week honors.
