ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE: More than $30 million raised since July 29th

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash.- On Wednesday Spokane Mayor David Condon made good on his promise to take part in the ALS ice bucket challenge. Mayor Condon did the challenge around noon on the Gonzaga Prep football field. Members of the school's football team were also there. The mayor is a G-prep alumnus, and received the ice bucket challenge from several people.

The Durham bus drivers also took part in the ice bucket challenge Wednesdsay. More than 250 drivers, attendants and staff were all participants. They called it a "perfect way to start the new year."

And then there's Kootenai Electric Cooperative. They didn't take part in the ALS ice bucket challenge- they ramped things up to the ALS ice FRONTLOADER challenge! Three frontloaders, actually. KEC nominated Avista Utilities, Clearwater Power, Northern Lights Electric Cooperative and Vera Water and Power to take the challenge or donate. KEC employees made donations to the ALS Association and KEC matched the total.

The ALS ice bucket challenge has raised more than $30 million for the ALS Association since July 29th. Compare that the $1.9 million raised during the same time period last year. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
