SPOKANE, Wash. -

Four young brothers in east Spokane have been working a lemonade stand all summer to raise money for school supplies.

The boys, who are originally from Afghanistan, immigrated with their mother two years ago from Russia. They ended up there after wars in the Middle East drove them from place to place. When they arrived in Spokane, they had next to nothing to their name.

So from 10 until 6 everyday, they've manned a lemonade stand outside their apartment complex.

“If you're not going to work hard, you're not going to get anything,” one of the boys, Aziz Moltafet said. “You have to work hard to get something.” Aziz the oldest brother at 14.

The idea was to make sure they have backpacks and school supplies ready for the first day. Their dream, however, was to get a computer to, to help them with their work.

“School is important because we need to get good job for the future,” Aziz Moltafet said.

Well today, the brothers achieved the first half of their goals.

The Salvation Army handed out nearly 5,000 backpacks today to kids in need of a little support.

“I think it's about success,” said Major Steve Ball with the Salvation Army in Spokane. “It's about helping kids have what they need to go in with confidence to school and really get busy and learn.”

The boys were excited to get their supplies, now less than a month away from the first day of school. But they said their lemonade stand will continue, as they try to raise money for that computer.
