SPOKANE, Wash. -

Anatek Labs became the second lab in Eastern Washington approved by the state's Liquor Control Board to test recreational marijuana, a mandatory process for growers before their product can hit the shelves.

The lab said they had to go through a long process to be approved, but today private growers can begin bringing samples into the lab to be tested for potency and purity. The Liquor Control Board mandates certain levels that growers must meet if they want to sell their product to retailers.

The lab said this should speed up the process of getting marijuana on the shelves, since growers in Eastern Washington now have another lab to use (before this, the only one in the region was one in Yakima). One of the major concerns voiced by retailers is a lack of products. That directly relates to this testing process.

The lab said they will never have much marijuana in their possession at a given moment. Growers only have to submit a very small sample for testing.

Anatek already owned most of the equipment that they'll use in the process, but they did have to purchase one or two new items.
