SPOKANE, Wash. - A new assessment ranks two schools in the Spokane area as exemplary, while 40 percent of those schools finished with a "fair" or below ranking.

The Washington State Board of Education released the new assessment of the quality of schools around the state Tuesday. The Washington Policy Center then looked at those assessments and ranked schools on an "A to F-" scale, with 14 percent of schools in in and around Spokane finishing with A's or B's. According to the Washington Policy Center, 40 percent of those schools finished no higher than a D.

The WPC says statewide, 42 percent of schools received a D ranking or lower and 4 percent received an A. 35 percent received a B or C.

The WPC took the assessments to rate 2,212 public schools across Washington, with an achievement index that was updated significantly this year. Those changes are because of new requirements from the U.S. Department of Education, according to the WPC.

Below is a list of the highest and lowest performing schools per district in the Spokane area, courtesy of the Washington Policy Center.
