KENNEWICK, WA- Local unions hosted their 3rd Labor Day picnic in Columbia Park on Monday.

The picnic has grown every year since the organizers started it.  It was also completely free to the public.

Organizers expected nearly 2,000 people, but they had enough food to feed 3,000.

The unions wanted to do something for that involved the community.  It started off as something small and has grown as more organizations continue to get involved.

“This was originally developed by the building trades, all the affiliates joined in and started this three years ago and turned it into something bigger than what we thought it was going to be.  We've got some other organizations involved as well,” said Derek Donley, volunteer at the picnic.

The event was Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and included free hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and live music.  There was also a car show and a bounce house for the kids.
