Police search for armed robbery suspect

SPOKANE, Wash. -

A man walked into a Zip Trip gas station brandishing a hand gun and stole cash Monday night, according to Spokane Police.

The robbery happened at about 10:30 p.m. at the Zip Trip on East Illinois Avenue, just north of where Perry Street intersects with Illinois.

Spokane Police say the man walked in and showed employees the handgun. Three employees were at the gas station, along with a few customers who fled when the armed robber arrived. The employees did not resist the robber and gave him an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen running north.

Police set up a perimeter around the location and tried to track the robber with K-9 dogs. Just a few minutes later, 911 dispatch received a call about an attempted burglary at a home less than a mile northeast of the gas station. Thinking the two incidents may be related, police shifted their perimeter to the northeast. They did not find anything.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned African American man, between 6'2'' and 6'4'' tall and weighing 250-270 pounds. He covered his face with a mask. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
