Man sentenced for fire at murder victim's house

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A man who broke into a murder victim's house and set it on fire has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Forty-three-year-old Steven Eugene Roberts III received the sentence Tuesday in 4th District Court and must serve 10 years before becoming eligible for parole.

Roberts broke into 74-year-old Phyllis Ward's Boise home in 2012 and stole property before using gasoline to set a fire.

A month before the break-in, Ward's body was found when another fire brought emergency workers to the home.

Prosecutors say Roberts is not connected to the first fire or the beating death.

Roberts was tied to the second fire through blood found on a broken window, and he was arrested about a month later in Louisiana.
