SEATTLE (AP) - Some police agencies in Washington have been suspended from the program that gives local law enforcement surplus military gear.
Records requested by KUOW (http://bit.ly/1uCYqlv ) show that the East Wenatchee Police Department was suspended last year over a missing M-16 rifle that later turned up in an unused locker.
The Grant County sheriff's office also was suspended last year over a missing M-16 that apparently was stolen. The Washington State Patrol is investigating.
Elwha Tribal Police were suspended from the program in January, but available records are not clear about what surplus equipment the tribal police received from the Defense Logistics Agency.
