SPOKANE, Wash. -

Spokane County Deputy Prosecutor Marriya Wright resigned from her position on Wednesday. Wright is being investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with Spokane County inmate Matthew Baumrucker. Wright's attorney told KHQ Wright turned in her resignation on Wednesday and that they "are close" to a resolution in the case.

Court documents say Wright and Baumrucker exchanged nearly 1300 text messages while he was wanted by police. Wright is being investigated for rendering criminal assistance and was on paid administrative leave before resigning on Wednesday. Baumrucker, who is a convicted felon, was wanted by police in March of 2014 on felony charges. During that time, court documents say while Baumrucker was hiding out from police he called Wright for advice and a ride.

After Baumrucker was arrested for his alleged crimes, court documents say Wright visited Baumrucker in jail 10 times since he was booked on March 12th. At no time was Wright representing Baumrucker as his attorney. Court documents also say that Wright used her attorney privileges at the jail and marked the visits as "professional" and used the attorney-client visitation rooms. A search warrant of Baumrucker's cell turned up handwritten letters and photo of Wright in a bikini. It was corrections officers who became suspicious of the frequent visits and alerted investigators.

Whitman County prosecutor Dennis Tracy was asked to handle part of the investigation back in April. When asked by KHQ, Tracy said any charges will likely be filed in Federal Court.

Wright's attorney, Chris Bugbee told KHQ last month, "We are working on a resolution regarding the case. I have been in contact with prosecutors," Bugbee said. He also said, "Marriya is a good person who was trying to help this guy. Due to some personal things in her life, her motives were good, the outcome was just bad."
