SPOKANE, Wash. -

Friday afternoon, about 5pm, a Spokane man was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. But the arrest was the result of the public, and an off-duty sheriff's deputy, being alert. It started when that off-duty deputy was on his way home, after shift.

He was near 3rd and Monroe when he got flagged down by some people who said the driver of a red truck was swerving in and out of traffic and he had kids in the backseat. The sheriff's deputy immediately jumped into action, found the driver near 4th and Monroe and pulled him over.

As he was pulling over, the driver glanced off a pillar under the freeway. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI. There were 2 kids in the car with him, but they were not injured. Family members came and picked them up.
