UPDATE:
SPOKANE, Wash.- A Spokane police officer was working an extra-duty security detail when he noticed that a man walking past him had cash falling out of his pockets. Connecting the dots with a recent bank robbery call he'd heard over the police radio, Officer Shane Phillips detained the man and called for backup.

A police spokeswoman, Officer Teresa Fuller, says the arrest came less than four minutes after a Wells Fargo branch robbery was reported Thursday.

Fuller says 37-year-old Jerrod Bestrom was booked into the Spokane County Jail for investigation of first-degree robbery.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:
Spokane Police quickly caught the person they suspect robbed a bank at 30th and Regal on the South Hill Thursday morning.

Police told KHQ on scene that the man walked into the Wells Fargo around 10:00am carrying a fake baby, walked up to the teller and handed her a note demanding cash. The teller gave the man cash, he left the bank, threw the fake baby and took off westbound on 30th, leaving a trail of cash on the street as he fled.

Police were already in the area conducting a traffic emphasis patrol near Thor/Freya and caught up to the man about a block away from the bank. The suspect surrendered immediately and was taken into custody. He was later identified as 37-year-old Jared Bestrom.
