SPOKANE, Wash. - It's the time of year when we start pondering what's ahead in the coming months. The summer days of lounging in the sun that won't set until 9:00 are gone. Now we can all look forward to it getting dark around 4:30, wearing extra layers of clothing, and dusting off the skis and snowboards. Some are excited at the notion, others... not so much. But no matter what side of the fence you sit, you're certain curious what kind of winter we can expect.

On Thursday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released their predictions for our winter, and if you enjoyed last year, they say get ready for more of the same.

NOAA said we can expect above-average temperatures in the Western United States this year. Not only that, they are also predicting it will be drier than normal as well. While California's drought is expected to continue, NOAA actually said new drought development is likely for northeast Oregon, eastern Washington, and small portions of Idaho and western Montana.

KHQ's Leslie Lowe is working through her 2014-2015 Winter Prediction Forecast right now. Will it match up with NOAA's? Stay tuned to khq.com to find out!
