COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

Coeur d'Alene city offices have received 33,000 emails from all over the country as a result of the pending federal lawsuit filed against the city on behalf of the Hitching Post wedding chapel.

The Hitching Post is suing the city of Coeur d'Alene because of an anti-discrimination ordinance that would force them to perform same-sex marriages, which the owners say is against their religious beliefs.

The city adopted the ordinance in 2013 in order to prevent people from being fired from their job, evicted from their apartment, or denied public services because of their sexual orientation.

According to the legal firm representing the Hitching Post, Alliance Defending Freedom, the city has told the business if they refused to marry same-sex couples they would be in violation of this ordinance. But a spokesman with the city of Coeur d'Alene said they have yet to receive a single complaint against the Hitching Post and currently have no reason to seek any action against the business.

On October 9th, the Hitching Post filed under Limited Liability Company (LLC), clarifying that they are a for-profit business that operates under the religious beliefs of its owners. However, only religious organizations are exempt under the anti-discrimination ordinance. According to the city spokesman, that's what they considered the Hitching Post after they filed for LLC, a religious organization, making them exempt. Now, the city is filing a response to the lawsuit, asking that it be dropped.

"There's no merit," says city spokesman, Keith Erickson. "The hitching post is excluded from the ordinance anyway. So we're just politely asking for them to dismiss the lawsuit."

Members of the Alliance Defending Freedom firm say they have no problem, dismissing the lawsuit. But if the Hitching Post, a for-profit business operating under the religious beliefs of its owners is exempt, that want that status included in the ordinance.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) - The Phoenix Police Department added a new vehicle to its fleet, but its not for catching criminals and it certainly doesn't drive faster. It's an ice cream truck. It's the first ever ice cream truck for Phoenix PD, maybe even the first police ice cream truck in general, some research may have to be done on that.
