STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - An emergency room physician at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Spokane was arrested in Stevens County on Monday, accused of child rape. Dr. Craig Morgenstern is being charged with Second Degree Rape of a Child. >>
SPOKANE, Wash. - After being arrested twice this week in Stevens County, once for Child Rape and again for Possession of Child Pornography, Spokane physician Craig Morgenstern was in a courtroom for a third time on Friday.

Morgenstern faces new Federal charges of Interstate Transportation of a Minor for Aggravated Sexual Abuse and Possession of Child Pornography.

According to court documents, Morgenstern brought an 11-year-old from Washington to Idaho where he performed a sex act with the child. The documents said the boy in this incident was the same as the boy from last week. The Interstate Transportation of a Minor for Aggravated Sexual Abuse could carry a sentence of 30 years to life if Morgenstern is convicted.

Morgenstern was taken into custody by Federal agents Thursday night as he was attempting to post bond at the Stevens County Jail. On Thursday, Morgenstern was in court after being arrested Wednesday night when detectives found child pornography in his home.

Morgenstern was initially arrested by the Stevens County Sheriff's Office on Monday after detectives spent the weekend investigating the claim that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy at his home Friday night. After compiling evidence, Morgenstern was arrested Monday and charged with Second Degree Rape of a Child. He posted his $100,000 bond set by the judge and returned home. Following an additional search of his home by detectives, he was arrested on the charge of Possession of Child Pornography on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Morgenstern faced a Stevens County judge again, who set his bail at $250,000 for the Possession of Child Pornography charge. Later that day, as Morgenstern was attempting to post bail at the Stevens County Jail, Federal Agents came and took him into custody on a US Marshals hold. He was then taken to the Spokane County Jail to wait for his hearing before a Federal judge on Friday afternoon.

Morgenstern has been remanded into US Marshal custody until his next hearing, which is scheduled for October 30, 2014.
