SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho -

The Shoshone County Sheriff's office responded to an animal complaint in the Burke Canyon area of Wallace, Idaho Friday afternoon. A resident reported a large, aggressive dog running loose that was keeping her from leaving her home.

When a deputy arrived on the scene, the dog in question ran at the deputy and bit him on the leg. The deputy retreated and the dog advanced a second time, biting the deputy again on the thigh.

Because the dog was dangerous, the deputy was forced to use his weapon. The deputy shot the dog once, killing it. The deputy was treated for his wounds at Shoshone Medical Center and released.

The Sheriff's Office is trying to locate the owner of the dog. The breed has not yet been confirmed and no further information was available.
