More families come forward in Spokane physician child rape case

More families are coming forward concerned that their children had contact with accused child rapist Dr. Craig Morgenstern More families are coming forward concerned that their children had contact with accused child rapist Dr. Craig Morgenstern
SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Stevens County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate Dr. Craig Morgenstern, who they arrested last week on a charge of Child Rape after a 13-year-old boy told police he woke up to Morgenstern performing a sex act on him. Stevens County Sheriff Kendle Allen told KHQ he and his detectives believe there are more victims out there, and on Monday we learned 20 families have contacted the Sheriff's Office concerned that their children had contact with Morgenstern.

While detectives believe there may be more victims, they said the difficult task for them is to find the victims, because of the way they believe Morgenstern carried out his crimes. Detectives believe Morgenstern would drug his underage victims, then he would molest them, so past victims may not even remember what happened.

Morgenstern has denied KHQ's request for an interview in the Spokane County Jail, but he did tell KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus last week that "because of my standing in the community the less information out there the better."

Morgenstern is facing local charges of Child Rape & Federal charges of Transporting a Minor Across State Lines for Sexual Purposes.

Stevens County Sheriff Kendle Allen said that the local charges are separate from the federal charges and that both cases are moving forward.

Morgenstern is being represented by Spokane attorney Chris Phelps who also represents Demetrius Glenn, the teen accused of beating and murdering WWII veteran Delbert Belton in 2013 in Spokane.

Morgenstern will be in Federal Court on Thursday where a judge will decide if he should be released on bond for a second time.
