SPOKANE, Wash. -

Like so many college sophomores at Gonzaga, Caleb Dawson is looking forward to Halloween. Unlike the majority of students, however, he hasn't spent the last few weeks working on a costume, or planning a party. Instead, Caleb has spent that time organizing more than 400 students for one huge canned food drive.

Emily Paulson with GU College Kitchens says this is filling a huge need in the Spokane community. She says more than 1 out of 5 kids in Spokane doesn't know where their next meal is coming from. She also told us that the food will go to many different charities including House of Charity, Lake City Foodbank, and the Salvation Army. Caleb told KHQ they plan on collecting 48,000 meals. They get two and a half meals from every pound they collect.

Caleb got the idea while on a mission, and he says it is his faith that keeps him motivated. “The people (I help) keep me going, and my faith keeps me focused,” he said.
