SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -

Remnants of Saturday's double homicide at a Spokane Valley apartment complex continue to remind residents of the tragedy that unfolded feet from their homes.

“I'm nervous, I'm afraid,” said Travis Horton, who lives above the apartment where the two victims lived. “It's just unfortunate it happened so close to home.”

Two men were killed at Broadway Square Apartment Complex Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m. The two lived together, according to neighbors.

One of the men was killed inside their apartment, and the other was gunned down on their neighbor's doorstep, just feet from their home.

While the Spokane County Sheriff's Office has said they don't believe the public is in any danger, residents at the complex, many of whom are parents, voiced concern Monday morning.

“I don't want to know anyone here,” Shaunee Harmsen said. Harmsen is a mother of two infants, and moved in two doors down to the victims less than two weeks ago.

“I don't want my kids to go out and play,” Harmsen said. “I wish I hadn't signed a year-long lease.”

Many neighbors said the area simply doesn't feel safe.
