The race for Spokane County Treasurer appears to be a tight one as current Treasurer Rob Chase holds about a 10 percent lead over challenger Amy Biviano, 55% to 45%.

Looking for her first job in an elected office, challenger Amy Biviano (D) is taking on current Treasurer Rob Chase (R) for the position of Spokane County Treasurer in this year's General Election.

Amy Biviano currently serves on the YWCA Board of Directors and the Inland Northwest Business Alliance.

She has been endorsed by the Spokesman Review who said "We're endorsing Democrat Amy Biviano, who is a Certified Public Accountant and has greater expertise in finance than the incumbent."

On her website, Biviano stated, "The treasurer plays a vital role as the protector of our tax dollars, the last point of review for our school district funding, and a driver of our local economy. We need someone with strong credentials, sound judgment, and ability to work together.

Unlike the incumbent, I am an experienced financial professional: a Certified Public Accountant with an MBA from Gonzaga and years of business experience. My first duty is keeping our promises to our children, not speculating in gold and silver as the incumbent proposed. I am the best person to make the fiscally responsible decisions for our community."

Rob Chase, who was elected to the position in 2010, is finishing up his first term as Spokane County Treasurer.

A Board Member of the Chase Youth Commission, Chase has a professional background in manufacturing, real estate and accounting.

On his election website he said, "When I ran in 2010 my goal was to be a good Treasurer. I have fulfilled that goal. By listening to taxpayers concerns we led the three year fight that led to passing a Partial Payments on Property Tax Bill for the first time in State history. We formed employee led teams that reduced peak wait time by 80%, banking fees by 70%, spent an average 8% less than budget each year, and rebuilt our website to become user friendly, transparent, and informative. Furthermore, our office recently achieved a 96% positive service rating."

In the August Primary, it was an extremely close race with Chase holding a slight edge with 40% of the vote to 39% from Biviano.

SPOKANE, Wash.- Whether it's the temperature, or the speed,  some of the waterways in the area are too dangerous to go into this Memorial Day weekend. Even though it feels warm outside, the river water is still actually very cold. If you were to completely submerge your body in it, it wouldn't take long to get hypothermia.
