CHELAN, Wash. - A 34-year-old Chelan man was arrested by deputies Friday night after deputies say he assaulted an 84-year-old man and a 46-year-old man for more than 12 hours had previously been convicted of Second Degree Murder in Spokane County back in 1998.

A criminal history search of Joseph D. Brooks indicated he has two previous felony convictions. One for Second Degree Murder in Spokane County in 1998 when he was nearly three months shy of his 18th birthday, and another in 2007 for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Brooks' supervision from the Washington State Department of Corrections ended in 2009.

Chelan County deputies say Brooks broke into the 84-year-old man's home in Chelan on November 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Brooks was confronted by the homeowner, and then deputies say Brooks pulled out a pistol at assaulted the 84-year-old homeowner at gunpoint for the next 14 hours.

During that time, a 46-year-old friend of the victim stopped by the house around 9:00 p.m. and deputies say he too was assaulted at gunpoint. The 46-year-old man was able to escape out of a bathroom window, run to a neighboring house and call 911.

Paramedics responded to the home and took the 84-year-old man to the hospital where he was treated for a laceration to his head and three cracked ribs. Deputies say he is in stable condition. The 46-year-old victim drove himself to the hospital where he was treated and released for a minor laceration and bruising to his head.

Deputies were able to locate Brooks and arrested him on numerous felony charges including, 1st Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment, Harassment Threats to Kill, 2nd Degree Theft, and 3rd Degree Malicious Mischief.
