COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

In Shelby Catron's quiet, north Coeur d'Alene neighborhood, she never expected a gunshot to act as her alarm clock early Sunday morning.

She heard a cannon-like bang, followed by nine gunshots. Catron immediately woke up her husband, grabbed the kids, and took cover in a closet.

"When you have kids, every scenario runs through your head. When you are a mom, you don't want them to, for one, experience that in the middle of the night. For two, you just really don't want them to get hurt," Catron said.

Physically, her kids are fine. Emotionally however, her kids were affected.

"My little one, even when she is going to the bathroom, she wants me to go with her. They are shaken up by it," Catron admitted.

Catron's neighbor, Zac Parks, was home with his wife and newborn daughter when police went into the house.

"It's hard to take in. This is a place we call home. To see something like that right outside your window is not too comforting," Parks said.

Parks said he is ready to move out of the neighborhood and into a new house.

"We are trying to look out for the sake of our kid. Do we want to raise her here? Do we want to take a chance?" Parks asked.

Catron however, isn't moving anytime soon. She is raising her kids right here.

"This is one bad guy that made a bad decision. I don't think it represents our town, our neighborhood, I don't think that at all," Catron said.
