Giving Tuesday asks people to give back

SPOKANE, Wash. -

After you've seized all the deals on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, it's giveback time. The Tuesday after Black Friday has been dubbed "Giving Tuesday", the day that asks people to donate to a good cause.

Nationwide, Giving Tuesday enters its third year, after being founded in 2012. This is the first year that Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels has taken part in the day. The nonprofit provides 800 meals a day, mainly for homebound seniors, but donations are significantly down. We spoke with Becky Duffey, a development associate with Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels. She told us she came across Giving Tuesday while looking for ways to cover that potential financial shortfall.

Duffey says the easiest way you can help is to text the word "MEALS" to 91999. It will cost about $3.50 but that's all it takes to provide a senior with a hot meal. You can also call 509-924-6976 to volunteer with Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) - The Phoenix Police Department added a new vehicle to its fleet, but its not for catching criminals and it certainly doesn't drive faster. It's an ice cream truck. It's the first ever ice cream truck for Phoenix PD, maybe even the first police ice cream truck in general, some research may have to be done on that.
