SPOKANE, Wash. -

Being proposed to is a special day for couples. Many choose to have that day photographed so they can look back on it for years to come.

You may have seen this particular marriage proposal picture online, but the couple in it had no clue about its fame.

A photographer was recently hiking in Oregon when he saw the proposal happening, and took the couple's picture.

When Katie Verkovod describes the moment her boyfriend of nine months became the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with, she says it was magical.

The day started out with a casual hike, and ended with a moment that would change her life. She says she was surprised, but the real surprise wasn't the proposal. A fellow hiker, and as fate would have it, an amateur photographer, was also climbing Munra Point that day. The photographer, Paul Wolfe, was standing far away, but he was able to capture a picture. Katie and her soon-to-be fiance Alex had no idea the picture was being captured.

When Wolfe got home, he realized he wanted to share that picture with them, but had no idea who they were. He posted it online along with a plea to the internet to identify the mystery couple.

"When it came out, I was the last one to find out," Katie explained laughing, "Someone put it on my wall and asked 'Is that you and Alex?' and I was like, 'Yea! It is!.'"

As for the picture and their new found fame? Katie says it's the perfect finishing touch to their story.

"It's so cool how people wanted to bless us…to bring us a happy ending, which is us having that picture."
