N. Idaho city eliminates parking loophole

Posted: Updated:
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) - Officials in the northern Idaho city of Sandpoint have made it a crime to wipe off tire markings intended to tell parking enforcement workers if a vehicle has gone over the two-hour limit for free parking.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1vwaT8N) in a story on Sunday that violators can face a $100 fine.

City officials say the two-hour limit is needed to promote downtown dining and shopping.

Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon says the likely procedure to catch scofflaws will involve someone witnessing a tire wiping and reporting it to police.

He says authorities will then investigate.
