CHENEY, Wash. -

When Jackie Doucette returned home after 10 days missing, her parents say she was all smiles.

“She was full of laughter,” Liz Doucette, Jackie's mother, said. “She was joking around. She was happy.”

Doucette says her 15-year-old step-daughter told the FBI she'd spent the 10 days hiding out in a camper in the family's backyard. She added that both parents searched the camper nearly a dozen times during the 10 days, and the FBI conducted their own search once they got involved.

The Doucettes say now they're fighting to keep their daughter after CPS brought a case against them alleging neglect by the parents. However, they say Jackie suffers from mental health issues, which bred a violent streak in the 15 year old.

“We've been dealing with the stuff for a long time,” Doucette said. “Whether it's trying to burn our house down, or trying to kill one of my other children, it's non-stop.”

Jackie, she says, is still hospitalized at Sacred Heart. The family's focus in getting Jackie into family member's home who has offered to take in the troubled teen.

They say what hurts the most has been the response from the public, which has been largely critical of the family.

“People don't know what's going on and they're making up their own story,” Doucette said. She says people have posted on the “Bring Jackie Home Safe” Facebook page alleging the family's other children were taken by social services.

“People judging us is not going to help Jackie. We've been dealing with this stuff for a long time and I'm just tired.”
