KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Kennewick School District says one of their students, a suspect in a homicide, died in an officer involved shooting early Wednesday morning in Minnesota after leading officers on a high speed chase.

The district says Johnathan Mar was enrolled at Legacy High School/Tri-Tech Skills Center. Mar was enrolled at Southridge High School for three months in 2011 and then enrolled in an online high school outside the district.

Maple Grove Police in Minnesota says they responded to a report of a shooting at a rest area along I-94 around 1:00 a.m Wednesday.

When officers arrived they found a man, dead in a car from an apparent homicide.

A witness called 911 and said they saw the suspect get into a red SUV with Oregon Plates. Officers spotted the SUV a bit later, tried to stop the driver, but the suspect led officers on a high speed chase through 3 cities and 2 counties.

The driver ended up crashing near I-694 East and Rice Street. Police say the suspect came out of his car holding a weapon. That's when officers shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Maple Grove Police Department is investigating the apparent homicide. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the officer involved shooting.

A Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputy and Brooklyn Center Police officer fired their weapons during the incident.

A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday morning in Minnesota.
