LYNNWOOD, Wash. -

Police in the north Seattle suburb of Lynnwood say a woman in her 60s fought back when she was approached in the Alderwood Mall parking lot by two young men who said they had a gun and were going to rob her.

Cmdr. Jim Nelson says the woman was getting into her vehicle late Tuesday afternoon when the two approached. She didn't see a gun. Nelson says the woman shoved the would-be robbers back and they ran away. Then she followed them in her vehicle as they ran through the parking lot.

Police say three Marine Corps recruiters observed the chase from their office and were able to capture one suspect, holding him until police arrived. The woman identified the 18-year-old from Everett as being one of the two who accosted her. Nelson says the teen had a baseball bat hidden in his pants.

Police searched unsuccessfully for the second young man, described as 18 to 20 years old.

Nelson said the arrested teen would be booked for investigation of attempted robbery.
