The 2015 'Razzie' nominations and predicted winners

KHQ.com - The 35th annual Razzie nominations were announced on Wednesday. If you've never heard of them, they are basically the Oscars, but instead of recognizing and appreciating the best movies, they recognize the worst movies.

Now a bit of a disclaimer. In 2008, when my favorite band and the greatest band to ever play rock n' roll, The Black Crowes (and if you disagree with that, which you most assuredly do, you may not appreciate the rest of this article), released their album, "Warpaint", it was given a terrible review by Maxim magazine. The problem with this was the critic who reviewed it, had never heard it before. Something Maxim finally admitted. It was an "educated guess" as they put it. They hadn't heard the album but made an educated guess. Horrible. Well, I'm going to say right up front that these predictions I'm about the make are just that: Educated guesses. I am not a movie critic. I haven't seen a majority of these movies. These predictions are based solely on what I know about the movies. Which isn't much. And with that, here are the nominees and my predictions on who will take home the Razzie.

- Worst picture: "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas"; "Left Behind"; "The Legend of Hercules"; "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"; "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

The only movie I've seen on this list is "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," and I'm going to go ahead and say I liked it. Perhaps the nostalgia of my childhood outweighed my common sense, but to me, I say leave the turtles alone.

This one goes to "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas." This has nothing to do with the movie's message, so you don't need to start blindly writing those hate emails yet. I'm simply predicting it will win because the acting (from the trailers I have seen) is atrocious. It is already ranked as the worst movie ever by IMDB. Plus, Mark Wahlberg battling robots is awesome.

- Worst actor: Nicolas Cage, "Left Behind"; Kirk Cameron, "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas"; Kellan Lutz, "The Legend of Hercules"; Seth MacFarlane, "A Million Ways To Die in the West"; Adam Sandler, "Blended."

First off, you'll never hear me say Nicolas Cage is the worst actor in anything. And I've seen "The Wicker Man." ("Bees! Not the bees!") The man is just amazing no matter what he does. He operates from a different plane of existence, and I dig that.

You might think based on my last prediction that I'd give the award to Kirk Cameron. But I won't. He's been through enough (Leave Kirk alone!) Turns out that is easier said than done. Read on for more on that.

Seth MacFarlane was surprisingly good as an actor in my opinion, despite the movie not living up to expectations.

Kellan Lutz, wait, who is Kellan Lutz? Hang on, let me check. Oh, he's been in the "Twilight" movies. Nah, too easy.

I'm predicting Mr. Sandler to take home this award. Adam, please start making good movies again. Without Drew Barrymore. Speaking of...

- Worst actress: Drew Barrymore, "Blended"; Cameron Diaz, "The Other Woman," ''Sex Tape"; Melissa McCarthy, "Tammy"; Charlize Theron, "A Million Ways to Die in the West"; Gaia Weiss, "The Legend of Hercules."

No, I'm not predicting Drew Barrymore. This award goes to Melissa McCarthy for playing the exact some character in every movie. We get it.

- Razzie redeemer award: Ben Affleck; Jennifer Aniston; Mike Myers; Keanu Reeves; Kristen Stewart.

A new category this year that gives a past Razzie winner a chance at redemption.Jennifer Aniston has never needed redemption and should never apologize for anything she's ever done. Perfection makes no apologies.

I saw "Gone Girl" and enjoyed it. And Ben Affleck made "Argo" so... where's the redemption? "Gigli"? Let it go. We all get one clunker.

Not that he needed redeeming, but Keanu Reeves gets my vote simply for the fact that I love "Johnny Utah" and "Point Break."

- Worst supporting actress: Cameron Diaz, "Annie"; Megan Fox, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"; Nicola Peltz, "Transformers: Age of Extinction"; Brigitte Ridenour, "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas"; Susan Sarandon, "Tammy."

Again, the only movie I saw out of this bunch was "Ninja Turtles", and much like Jennifer Aniston, Megan Fox can do no wrong. It's not like it takes a ton of range to play "April O'Neil." So sorry Ms. Ridenour, you're guilty by association.

- Worst supporting actor: Mel Gibson, "The Expendables 3"; Kelsey Grammer, "The Expendables 3," ''Legends of Oz," ''Think Like a Man Too," ''Transformers: Age of Extinction"; Shaquille O'Neal, "Blended"; Arnold Schwarzenegger, "The Expendables 3"; Kiefer Sutherland, "Pompeii."

This is a toss up between Shaquille and Kelsey Grammer. But I have to predict Mr. Grammer winning this because 1.) There are four bad movies associated with him this year. 2.) We know he can act, he apparently just made some bad choices and 3.) We know what we are getting with Shaquille. He made "Kazaam." He made "Shaq Fu." Enough said.

- Worst director: Michael Bay, "Transformers: Age of Extinction"; Darren Doane, "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas"; Renny Harlin, "The Legend of Hercules"; Jonathan Liebesman, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"; Seth MacFarlane, "A Million Ways To Die in the West."

Michael Bay. That's it. Though he did have a hand in producing the "Ninja Turtles," so perhaps a little hypocrisy showing through on my part.

- Worst screen combo: Kirk Cameron and his ego, "Saving Christmas"; Seth MacFarlane and Charlize Theron, "A Million Ways To Die in the West"; any two robots, actors (or robotic actors), "Transformers"; Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel, "Sex Tape"; Kellan Lutz and either his abs, pecs or glutes, "Legend of Hercules."

Not sure who would accept for "Transformers." Too many variables there.

Seth and Charlize were fine for what it was (Liam Neeson was the real loser in that deal).

I love Jason Segel. Haven't seen him in do one bad thing in his career, and I'm not going to start now.

Kellan Lutz. Wait, I forgot who he is again. Hang on. Oh yeah. Nevermind. Don't worry, he'd say the same thing about me. And he's right.

So by the process of elimination, this award will go to Kirk Cameron and his ego. I think that speaks for itself. You can begin your hate emails now. But did anyone actually see/like this movie? You might appreciate the message of it, but come on... did you actually like it? Be honest.

- Worst screenplay: "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas"; "Left Behind"; "Sex Tape"; "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"; "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

My hands are tied. I have to say it goes once again to "Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas." Sorry Kirk.

- Worst remake, rip-off or sequel: "Annie"; "Atlas Shrugged: Who Is John Galt?"; "The Legend of Hercules"; "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

Annie. Haven't seen it. Don't want to see it.

The winners will be announced on February 21, 2015, the night before the Oscars.

Cowabunga, dudes. That's all folks.

KHQ.COM - Most mothers can only hope by the time their children grow up and move out of the house, they've learned all the necessary things to be a successful adult, including the basic knowledge that a turkey must be cooked in an oven, or perhaps in a smoker... NOT in a microwave. For this reason a new prank-challenge going around on Facebook is resulting in some hilarious text conversations between mothers and their grown children.
