What you need to know about health exchange programs in Washington state and Idaho

Posted: Updated:

(KHQ.COM)-  The deadline to sign up for health insurance in the health exchange programs open enrollment in Washington state and Idaho is February 15.  If you have not signed up for health insurance by the deadline, you may face penalties while filing your taxes this year.  Both Washington state and Idaho offer free services to anyone in need of a broker to help them determine the best plans available.

Representatives from Washington Healthplanfinder and Your Health Idaho say some of the most frequently asked questions they receive are about the plans they offer, why the costs of personal plans have gone up or down, how to avoid being penalized if you can't afford insurance, and whether the federal government determines the cost of health insurance plans for the state-run programs.

Bethany Frey from the Washington Healthplanfinder and Pat Kelly of Your Health Idaho spoke with KHQ to answer those questions.
