Zombie Cat claws its way out of grave, walks home

Posted: Updated:

TAMPA, Florida- Bart the cat has the heart of a fighter and the strength of a lion. That's the general consensus after Bart did something that's practically unheard of outside of the movie, "Pet Sematary". Ellis Hutson, Bart's owner told CNN, "The cat was absolutely dead. The cat was cold. The cat was stiff, the cat ain't had no movement, no nothing."

Bart was hit by a car and his owners buried him, but nearly a week later, a neighbor discovered the cat in their yard. Hutson's neighbor says, "There he is, just purring and looking up at me. All dirty. I'm like, 'this cat is dead'. I know he was dead."

As the Hutson's were grieving the loss of their beloved family pet, Bart clawed his way out of his grave and came crawling back home. Hutson says, "It had to have been touched by the Lord or something. I can't explain it."

After being hit by a car then buried alive, Bart was not supposed to live, but he clearly wasn't ready to die. Suffering from a broken jaw, a cracked palate, and deep wounds on his face and body, Bart was taken to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for care.

Bart underwent surgery to repair his broken jaw and remove his damaged eye. He was slightly anemic so he received a blood transfusion from another cat at the Humane Society.

According to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, after reviewing Bart's home environment and the circumstances leading to his burial, he will not be going back home to the Hutson's. The Humane Society says they are fighting for the best interests of the cat. Right now they are accepting donations for Bart's medical bills through their Save-A-Pet Medical Fund.
