SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. - When it comes to weather forecasting groundhogs, there is Punxsutawny Phil and only Punxsutawny Phil. Accept no substitutes. The mayor of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin found that out the hard way Monday morning. During the Groundhog Day celebration on Monday, the handler of Jimmy the Groundhog was putting him up to the ear of Mayor Jonathan Freund, so Jimmy could "whisper" his weather prediction to the mayor. >>
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. -

"This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather." - Phil Connors

If you're a fan in believing a prognosticating rodent, then we can expect six more weeks of this cold dreary weather to stick around. Punxsutawney Phil was pulled out of his hole Monday morning and "whispered" into the ear of a guy wearing a top hat that winter will stick around for six more weeks because he saw his shadow.

According to records dating back to 1887, Phil has predicted winter 102 times and has only forecasted an early spring 17 times. The more impressive stat to take away from that is that Phil is apparently a 128 year old groundhog. Though promoters say Phil is never wrong, Encyclopedia Britannica says his success rate it only 40%.

"This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat. What a hype. Groundhog Day used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out, and they used to eat it. You're hypocrites, all of you!" - Again, Phil Connors.

You can watch Groundhog Day  all day on Monday on AMC. They are playing a marathon of the awesome movie.
